What this tool is for
The Pre-Sport Safety Checker gives you a quick, tailored rundown of the safety basics for your sport before you step out onto the pitch, court, track, pool, or hill. Instead of a generic list, it focuses on the things that actually matter for what you are about to do.
You tell it a few details about your sport and situation, and it sends back a checklist you can run through in a couple of minutes.
Who should use it
It is aimed at anyone in the UK who wants a sensible safety check before taking part. That might be a parent whose child is starting a new club, an adult returning to a sport after a break, a beginner trying something for the first time, or a regular player heading into a different environment, for example an outdoor pitch in poor weather or a hired venue they have not used before.
It is not a replacement for proper coaching, medical advice, or the rules set by a governing body or club. If you have a health condition, an existing injury, or any doubts, speak to your GP or a qualified coach. Use this as a prompt to think things through, not as the final word.
How it works
Answer a short set of questions about your sport, your experience, where you will be playing, and anything else that might affect safety, such as age group, weather, or kit you already own. The tool then produces a plain English checklist covering the equipment to have ready, a suitable warm-up, things to look out for in the environment, and the injuries or mistakes most often linked to that activity. You can read it on screen, print it, or save it to look at again later. Your answers are not stored against your name, and you do not need to sign up or give an email address to use it.
Ask Safe Sport a question
Ask our editorial team a question and we will reply with our advice. Tell us as much about your situation as you can: the more detail you give, the more useful our answer can be.
